Welcome to a small glimpse of my work, projects and things that inspire me. Since 2008 I am responsible for the art-direction of BVL. In the past three years BVL expanded from 7 to 26 people and is now one of the top advertising agencies of Rotterdam. Besides my work at BVL I am always involved in other creative projects with fashion designers, photographers and product designers. Recently I started with photography and furniture design. For more info or ideas for cool and inspiring projects contact me.
As art director I work with many great photographers. Begin 2011 a friend photographer asked me to join his new project. He asked me to shoot my daily life for a week using a Lomo camera. The Lomo was a famous camera in the 80s and makes use of the colored filters I like so much! This is one of the images I shot for this project .
I made this campaign in reaction to a news item about children who were abusing butterflies in the Artis Butterfly Pavilion. Through this campaign of ‘Artis de Partis’ we were focusing on both children and parents to create awareness and prevent future incidents. The campaign was received with great enthusiasm and got rewarded with an ADCN Actuality nomination.
I am a great fan of artistic film festivals such as the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR). Each year young filmmakers inspire me with their creativity to shoot great movies with such small budgets. I made this poster (part of a series) to emphasize that great things can be achieved with minimal means.
I am always busy with new crafts and techniques to make objects, prints, furniture, etc. for in my house or as presents for my friends. This image shows a black ink/water painting after a special version of the movie Alice in Wonderland. I made it many years ago during a quick sketching assignment at the academy, and it is still one of my favorites.
The clothes that you have worn inhabit many stories of your life. With the new concept of Diesel Vintage you can pass on these stories. The stories will be printed on labels added to the clothing, and will eventually travel all over the world. This way everyone carries a special story, and the story continues…
I developed this concept for myself, and used Diesel as an example. I am still interested to pick up my concept one day with a clothing brand such as Diesel and actually get it on the market.
I made this campaign for Electrolux to advertise in the Pink Ribbon Magazine (Pink Ribbon is an organization which fights against breast cancer). One of the things I like at BVL is that we do many campaigns related to social issues, and how to create awareness for these issues among a specific group of people.
The campaign was rewarded by Sanoma for the "Best topical advertisement in charity glossy Pink Ribbon Magazine".
I can get inspiration from many things, but searching for beautiful and inspiring new images on the internet, I cannot go a day without. Some of my favorite pages are: FFFFound, Trendlandt, Ohjoy, Designsponge and many more..
Another example of a social related issue is the campaign I made for Terre des hommes, a charity that is fighting to prevent child exploitation. The idea was to give people direct feedback of the achieved result of their donation using a text message. The message and result: "Thank you! With your donation, we can change a life" was shown on their mobile after texting.
